Linking contacts and opportunities to accounts
This demonstration illustrates how to associate contact and opportunity records with account
records.
The accounts main page
The Accounts main page can be divided into three parts, the top, middle and bottom pane. (Users can choose to have different page layouts with one, two or three panes)
Account detail
The middle pane is the Account details pane. The details shown here, correspond to the highlighted record in the Account list. Again all Fields and labels can be customized here.
The bottom pane
The bottom pane shows us Contacts, Opportunities, Activities, Notes and Documents in a tab
format. Again this can be fully customized. For example, if you would like to see only
Contacts, Opportunities and Activities for the Account records, the page layout can be
customized in that fashion in a matter of seconds. By default the first entity tab will be
highlighted.
Select an account
Click the Account record to which to link other records.
The link button
All details of the particular account record will show up. This Account record already has
two associated contacts. To add another contact click the link icon in the contact tab as
shown.
The quick choose option window
The quick choose window pops up from where we can select the contact. We can search for the contact either by the match items boxes provided or from the alpha ribbon. As we are sure the contact’s last name begins with ‘S’, click the lens icon on the ‘S’ letter on the alpha ribbon. Click GO
Result of the selection
All contact names with the last name starting with ‘S’ shows up. Select the name to be added by clicking the lens icon on the contact’s name.
View the selected contact
The contact has now been added to the other two contacts.
Save the selection
Click save and now the added contact is associated with the account record.
Check contacts in the main accounts page
We are now brought back to the Accounts entity page where in the bottom page under Contacts we now see three contacts linked to the account record.
Adding an opportunity through accounts
To add an opportunity via the Accounts page, first select Opportunities in the bottom pane as shown.
Select and add an opportunity button
On selecting the Opportunities tab, we see a link and an add button on the bottom right of the page. Select the Add button.
Opportunity page opens
The add an opportunity page to the Account’s name opens up. Notice the primary account is
already pre-filled. This is because we are adding an opportunity through an account.
The primary contact link
Similarly the primary contact and Territory of the account is automatically pre-filled.
Save the opportunity details
Enter the rest of the data and click Save.
View added opportunity through the contact record
We are now brought back to the main Accounts page where in the bottom pane under the Opportunities we see the added Opportunity.
